This painting is based on a photo taken by, I think, my dad or brother, of me diving into our backyard pool that backed onto Westmead Golf Course. It was 1999. I was 12, scared of Y2K, and convinced I was going to die a virgin. So I’d lie in my room, listening to Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Silverchair, and cry about the end of the world. But it wasn’t all that bad, we did have a pool.
