The Girl Is A Gun
Acrylic and Oil Pastel on canvas, Framed in Australian Oak
77CM W x 101.5CM H
Set against a candy-pink desert sky, The Girl Is a Gun draws on the visual language of the spaghetti western, reworked through a contemporary lens. Here, the weapon is not what she holds, but what she is.
The tracksuit, a recurring motif in my work, nods to growing up in Western Sydney in the 1990s and my Eastern European heritage, a place that could be tough and unforgiving, mirroring the lawless edges of the Wild West. Borrowing from the final frames of classic cinema, the work sits in that quiet moment after the action has passed, where presence becomes power.
